Scholarship

Since 1941, the DCA has been awarding scholarships to graduates of Darien High School based on financial need, scholastic standing and the potential of the applicant. Our Scholarship Committee reads the applications submitted by the students along with their parents' tax return and interviews all students during May and June of each year.

Special scholarship grants this year included:

The Lucy K. Wiggins Award - a memorial scholarship to a senior going into a helping profession.
The Darien Lassie League Scholarship - which benefits a softball player showing good sportsmanship.l.
Named scholarship awards - awards given by individuals who financially support students through a four-year donation.

During the 2006-07 budget year, grants in the amount of $54,000. were made to 28 Darien High School seniors and returning college students. The DCA assists many of the collegians throughout their undergraduate college careers.

Scholarship funds are raised by DCA groups, The DCA Thrift Shop, and your donations.

The need for scholarship assistance is great. Our community is not immune to the financial hardships caused by job loss, divorce, parental abandonment and disabilities.
